I had the most amazing winter trip to Australia 🙂 I decided to split my time traveling in Australia into two trips – a ‘city’ trip that I already did in May (Melbourne & Sydney), and a ‘hiking’ trip that I just did to Tasmania and the Blue Mountains. Here in Malaysia, there was almost a whole week off work at the end of June due to the end of Ramadan, plus I wanted a cold weather vacation since it’s so hot here – so it was perfect 🙂 And winter in Australia is not nearly as back home near Chicago! It was great walking weather.
I flew to Sydney, did a 5 day tour of Tasmania, spent some time in Tassie’s capital city, then rounded it off with some solo hiking in the Blue Mountains (just west of Sydney). I did a lot and loved every minute.
I love Melbourne. It grew on me immensely throughout my stay.
There is a big Sydney vs Melbourne rivalry in Australia, and they are so very different – I was surprised at how different. I honestly loved both but if I had to pick…Melbourne wins by a narrow margin. 🙂 The energy, the architecture, and the cafes – it feels so cozy and fun.
Sydney is gorgeous! It’s autumn in Australia, and it was perfect weather for exploring the city – sunny and crisp 🙂 I took an overnight flight from KL. Thanks to dramamine and my silly eye mask, long flights are basically like teleportation. And now that I’m flying so much, an 8 hour flight like this is one that I would call “not bad at all.” Hopefully I can keep this attitude forever! Haha, anyway, here is an overview of everything I did in Sydney.
